The Turkish Historical Society, established in 1931 under the directives of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, has been carrying out its work in line with scientific principles for more than 90 years. In this context, our Society researches Turkish history and the history of Türkiye within the framework of contemporary social science and supports activities in this direction. The Turkish History Congresses, held every four years, represent a scientific tradition among the activities of our Society.
The inaugural Turkish History Congress, where current research on Turkish history and history of Türkiye were presented, was held in 1932. The 2nd Congress, held in September 20-25, 1937, in Dolmabahçe, acquired an international dimension, as scholars from abroad also participated in this event.
Since their inception, the Turkish History Congresses, where original papers have been presented, have hosted both domestic and foreign academics who are competent in their fields and leading global historical institutions have also made substantial scientific contributions to these congresses. The subsequent publication of the presented papers, has secured the enduring academic and historiographical significance of the Turkish History Congresses.
At the Turkish History Congresses, held every four years, issues and facts pertaining to Turkish history and history of Türkiye are examined and elucidated through reference to original historical sources. On the other hand, these studies are not only addressed from a historical perspective but also with contributions from all areas of social sciences. At the point reached today, the Turkish History Congresses have become one of the most respected scientific meetings in the field of history both in Türkiye and internationally, in terms of originality of the papers presented and scientific discussions during the congress.
